For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting HOPE. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3.16-17 (tweaked)
The end of a calendar year always brings pensive thoughts to this heart of mine. I look back and am tempted to do the what if’s, the if only’s, the but wait’s. Yet, I believe in the sovereignty of an Eternal God. I also know beyond a shadow of doubt that because I walk with Him, in His Spirit, my steps are measured by Him. The God of Creation determines my every move. Does it get better than that? I think not.
The Gospel of John, chapter 3, gives the account of Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews asking Jesus if He was “from God.” Nicodemus approached Jesus by night – perhaps so no one would see him and perhaps Nic was there to “trick” Jesus as was the habit of the Sandedrin, of which he was a member. Regardless of the why, Jesus answered him straight up. Unless a man be born again – he will not see the Kingdom of God.
Now, if we continue on to John 19.39, we see Nicodemus with Joseph of Arimethea asking for the dead body of Jesus – we can rightly assume that Nicodemus came to know Jesus for WHO HE WAS and followed Him. The greatest Hope the world has ever known. Nicodemus made the right decision – it is my prayer that all who read these words will follow in his footsteps!
Father God, in the Mighty Name of Jesus, the One who is the Greatest Hope the world has ever known, we come before You thinking back and thinking ahead to a new year. A year of unknown’s, unrest’s, and unpredictable’s. Before You I sit down and say, “Lord, let it be as You would desire – my life is yours – may it forever glorify You, my Hope and my Redeemer.” Amen.
