My Life Verse
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Psalm 90:1 (ESV)
I have lived in multiple homes in the course of my lifetime. Different seasons of time meant a change in location of what I called “home.” In good times and sad times, difficult times and disappointing times, it was usually the place I most wanted to go.
It was where family was.
Sometimes that place called “home” was not my first choice of a place to go when my dreams were discouraged or I felt alone in the midst of family, or failed to meet someone’s expectations there.
“Home” was not an unsafe place for me, but when it wasn’t nourishing to my heart, mind, and spirit it caused me to wonder what life “at home” with the Lord would be like.
Psalm 90:1 brought the word “dwelling place” into focus and I wondered if it was synonymous with “home”. I discovered that experiencing God as a “dwelling place” was not the same. It meant something different than “home” that is a temporary refuge here on earth.
God’s dwelling place is where I live as his daughter, where I can rest in Him in good times and bad both now and forever.
Dwelling in God’s presence results in an eternally significant life.
Thank you, Lord, for providing for me a dwelling place in You for both now while I live out your purposes on this earth and also eternally. You nourish and satisfy me in this place unlike any other place.
How good you are! Amen
