This HOPE we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil. Hebrews 6.19
I pulled the sheets up over my head and cried out to the Lord, “I cannot do this any longer, Lord, I cannot.” That particular morning was like a hurricane of emotions – God used my husband to encourage me! Although at the time it felt more like a reproof of the third degree! Get out of bed and let’s get ready for church. “No way,” I cried, “I am NOT going.” Oh yes, you are! My genteel husband convinced me to wash my face, get dressed, put on my big girl britches and get to church. The emotional Tsunami in my heart was quelled by a sister in Christ. She came to me after service and prayed heaven down. She was binding and releasing in Jesus’ Name — she was an anchor in my wild storm of soul.
Hebrews 6.19 is for believers. The writer of Hebrews is sharing the infallible purpose of Jesus Christ in this portion of chapter 6. He writes how God made a promise with Abraham and because He (God) could not swear by anyone greater than Himself, He swore by Himself!
“Abraham, I promise you will become a father of many nations, I swear on … Me!” – God! In this chapter we learn IT IS IMPOSSIBLE for God to lie – we are encouraged to lay hold of the HOPE set before us! Because this HOPE? Is an anchor for our soul. It is sure and steadfast. This HOPE is anchored in the solid ground of God’s promises – not in the quicksand of man’s possibilities.
Father God, in the Name of Jesus, our Living Hope, we can claim victory during the storms of life. The wind can blow. The waves can rise. But HOPE IN YOU is the anchor that tethers us and gives us bold confidence to enter behind the veil. Jesus, You our High Priest, invite us in and You intercede on our behalf. Calm our seas. Quiet our hearts. Restore our Hope. Amen.
