I’ve had reoccurring neck issues, and at times couldn’t even glance over one shoulder without great difficulty. Driving was a challenge, but for the safety and well-being of everyone (including myself) I’d force my neck to turn to make sure I could properly see my surroundings. Checking to verify roads or lanes are clear and looking back is very important, and if not done properly disaster could happen.
God tells us to look back, to remember His faithfulness, to remember all the wonderful things He has done for us and for others. Unfortunately, many people tend to look back at everything negative, at every disaster, heartache, and hard thing they have gone through.
I’m not being flippant about the trials and suffering of life, God knows there are major difficulties. However, we need to remember to look back the right way, to see and remember and praise God for what He has done. We are to set up markers and memorials higher than the heartaches and failures; higher than it all, high enough for our gaze to see the eternal hope.
Look back and remember our God is a faithful God. Remember His rescues, remember the times He helped you through, remember His mercy and grace, remember His goodness, remember His unfailing love, and remember He will never leave you or forsake you.
Each time you look back, each time you remember, your strength will grow, your hope will rise, and your faith will stand stronger.
“He has made His wonders to be remembered; The Lord is gracious and compassionate.” ~ Psalm 111:4 (NASB)
“Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth.” ~ 1 Chronicles 16:12 (NASB)
“I shall remember the deeds of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.” ~ Psalm 77:11 (NASB)

Can you think of a time when in the midst of a trial you became aware of God’s loving presence?
In what ways did He make His presence known? Was it through an answered prayer, the beauty of a sunset or perhaps through some loving words from a friend?
When you look back on your life do you see God’s faithfulness and grace? Whatever your answer, please make the time to remember all the ways God has worked in your life. Reflecting on God’s grace will give you faith and hope for the future.
