Trail Markers

Trail Markers
Lisa Buffaloe

As of December, 2016, I’ve moved thirty-five times. (Now it’s thirty-six). The trail has been a wild ride filled with ups and downs, good and bad, hardship and fun. Some memories make me smile, others make me shudder, and all make me grateful for a forgiving, restoring God.

During the Israelites journey to the Promised Land, God had them place stones to remember the rescues He had made and the great things He had done. I wonder what it would be like if we did the same?

What if we had spiritual markers, gratitude stones that marked our trails? Wouldn’t that be amazing? As we watched (and made note) where God worked and is working, we would look back and see the firm foundation of the faithfulness of God. Our marker stones would build on the past for our present and future. Our steps would become more sure because we would be grounded in the sureness of God.

The Bible tells us every good thing given and every perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17). Every good thing. Every single one. The beauty your eyes see, the pleasing sounds your ears hear, the food you eat, the shelter you have, the sweet memories cherished in your heart, every blessing is a blessing from God. He pours out His love upon us all every single moment of every single day.

We make the choice to notice, to remember, and to thank God for the good along our journeys. I want to do that! I want to leave trail markers that remind me of God’s faithfulness and show others the protection and provision of our wonderful God.

Want to join me?

Heavenly Father, thank You for the amazing blessings You have given me along my journey. Please forgive me when I didn’t notice or pay attention. Please remind me of Your past faithfulness and open my eyes to see and my ears to hear all the wonderful ways You are working now. Thank You, Father. Thank You for all You have done and all You will do, and thank You most of all for being You!

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.” ~ Psalm 92:1-2 (NKJV)
