Have you ever been provoked by something in the Bible? This statement has been provoking me lately:
“Truly I say to you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” John 16:20
We come to Jesus and are saved by faith, and that faith grows as we mature in our spiritual life. The immature me looked at that verse and thought about moving mountains, the mature-are at least the older me-sees the last part of that verse as the more important:
“Nothing will be impossible for you.”
What an incredible statement! As I look back on my life with Jesus, there have been many situations that seemed impossible. There have been many struggles with sin, with temptations that seemed impossible. But my faith grew as I learned to cling to the promises of God in the Bible and believe them.
Now I look at that promise above, and the word “possible” shines like a neon light to the eyes of my soul! I realize that there are great mountains in my life that can be moved by the decision of faith-believe in the Lord!
It is possible for me to trust the Lord’s power and ability to keep me! John 10:27-28
It is possible for me to give Jesus all of my hopes and fears each day, and receive His peace instead! 1 Peter 5:7
It is possible to realize that my weaknesses, troubles, and frustrating circumstances are actually opportunities to grow in faith and perseverance and character. Romans 5:3-5
It is possible to see God’s will in every circumstance-even the most painful-and to trust in the goodness, kindness and faithfulness of my heavenly Father, who loves me, and promised that He will work out everything in the end for my good. Romans 8:28
Which is more of a miracle? Moving a mountain, or learning how to stand on the grace we’ve been given in Christ?
We’ve been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, but it’s possible to live like a beggar. If you belong to Jesus Christ, you have a whole book filled with promises! Take time every day to dig into its treasure so that you will find
