BUT FIRST . . the Café thought you just might want to know
how an Encouragement Leader like Debbie Wilson has been encouraged
in her own faith …
In her own words…
Life takes time. Relationships take time.
We need to be still to tap into the deeper issues of the soul.
That became clearer one night after my husband Larry and I
had enjoyed some meaningful conversation.
I realized how distractions had robbed me of companionship with my best friend.
It wasn’t that we didn’t spend time together,
but my mind was often pulled by what needed to be done.
We enjoyed life and each other more.
We lingered over more meals instead of swallowing them whole.
Our lives weren’t perfect. I still heard myself telling our children
to “hurry up” way too much, but it helped.

If something was going to go wrong …
it would happen when my husband was traveling. Larry had to travel with his ministry in the early years of our marriage. And if I was going to unearth a yellow jacket nest or the toilet was going to break or both children were going to be down with chicken pox, it happened while he was away.
Thankfully he was never gone more than two weeks at a time. But even those relatively short trips brought adjustments. As much as I counted the days to his return, his reentry was also a balancing act. I had to surrender control of the schedule and other things I’d closely managed while in survival mode. Our small challenges gave me compassion for our military families.
Our soldiers …
don’t kiss their partners good-bye for a week or two. They say so long for months when they are deployed to dangerous places to protect us. On top of this, some may return with physical and emotional wounds.
After counseling some wives of military men, my concern for these brave women multiplied. That is why I’m so excited about the Buy One, Gift One promotion. Last year Support Military Spouses handed out 6,000 shoe boxes filled with a Bible and practical encouragement. I’m so thankful to be able to partner with them.
And though I wanted to do this and felt God wanted me to, it was a step of faith. I hoped for a big response, but, on the other hand, a big response meant I had to buy a lot of books.
With a few jittery nerves …
I posted the blog announcing the promotion Tuesday morning. Within an hour someone texted me saying she’d mailed a check to our ministry to help with the cost. Two days later my publisher said they would help with the gift books too. Then Life Letter Café stepped in to get the word out!
This little woman is still awed by our Big God and the generosity of His people.
Would you like
your gift-giving to count twice?
Are you still looking for that perfect gift that will continue to provide faith, hope, and encouragement after Christmas is over?
This Christmas season you can support and encourage our brave military spouses who shoulder responsibilities of family, employment, finances, and wounded warrior care by participating in a Buy One, Gift One program.
That’s right. This doesn’t cost you a dime, but your purchase can bring encouragement from God’s Word to those families who sacrifice for us.
Here’s how it works:
For every copy of Little Women, Big God that you buy between now and January 10th we’ll donate one book to Support Military Spouses who will include them in the Appreciation Care Packages they donate to military spouses around the USA! Learn more about them at SupportMilitarySpouses.org.
Just email a copy of your receipt showing your purchase to LighthouseMinistries@nc.rr.com, and we’ll send one book to Support Military Spouses for every book you buy between now and January 10th!
