Debbie & Troy

Married for 21 years, Debbie and husband Troy have served together in ministry even longer. With a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, Debbie headed to the mission field just after college and served with Mercy Ships International for 3 years on board the M/V Anastasis hospital ship. Travels took her sailing across the sea all the way to Africa, Europe, Central America, the Caribbean and back. Troy studied at Seminary to get his Masters Degree, and also had the opportunity to live and teach in Thailand for several years after college. He can still speak the language today, which always makes eating in Thai restaurants a unique experience!

The 2 first met while back home stateside from their international travels, at a 6 am prayer meeting in their church. And well…the rest is history. So it’s true, good things do happen when people pray. 🙂

The McDaniel’s make their home in Cypress, Texas where Troy serves on staff as Family Pastor for Second Baptist Church. They’re grateful for continued opportunities to be involved in mission projects, drama, theater, Bible Study teaching, and Family and Children’s Ministries.

They’re lives are blessed with 3 amazing kids, Dawson, Noah, and Gracie, and 4 much-adored pets, who offer an endless supply of interesting writing material most days, as they keep life full, active, loud, and a little (or a lot) messy too.

As a commercial actor and dramatist, Debbie has enjoyed working on a variety of projects through the years, but her favorites are when the whole family can “act” in a commercial together. Even their dog Bailey has had a chance to get in on the action in a recent filming for a morning show in Houston.

Though incredibly grateful for God’s goodness through long years, Debbie shares this, “Real life and struggle gets lived out in between all the spaces and crevices of what a bio might say. And that’s often where the deepest beauty and purposes of life are found.”

Like many of you reading this today, Debbie has faced dark times and struggle. Through 7 years of infertility, 2 failed adoptions, and the emotional roller coaster years of simply longing for a child, she understands the pain and loss of grief. Any maybe like you have, through much time and huge grace, she’s come out the other side of it all. Though your journey of struggle may look different, you may also know this to be true – God is able to bring treasure out of the darkest of times. It’s what He does best. For He is Redeemer, Life-giver, the One who sets free.

It’s for this reason she feels called, compelled, to write. And to share words and stories of hope:

“If you’ve lived long enough, you know this one thing to be true. Life is not perfect. No marriage is perfect, no family is perfect, no person either. It all comes with bumps and bruises, struggles and hurdles, and often, lessons and truths learned deep in dark places. It’s in those times we have the greatest potential to see the work of God in our lives, redeeming, bringing hope, setting free, strengthening faith, inspiring hope. He is what holds all of our pieces together, the broken and painful moments of the past, the pressure, stress, and overwhelmed feelings of the present, as well as the uncertainty and fear we may sometimes have about the future. God sees our circumstance, knows the pain of what we walk through, and He has a plan.  The very God of the universe is intimately acquainted with all of our ways, He never grows weary, He is with us, and He whispers our name.  Keep walking through. You’re never alone. No matter what struggle or grief you’re facing today, there’s life still…on the other side of it all.

Grace.”
