For some it is a case of so close yet so far . .
for others, it’s a case of never being close to at all.
Finding Christmas should not be this difficult or complicated, but it can be for many . .
you see, there just has come to be so much Christmas propped up
by both pop culture and religion that barely, if at all, intersects with the event

that split history in two,

maybe it’s time we borrow a pair of glasses from heaven
and take a fresh look at the One who was born in Bethlehem
and took the name Jesus.

In fact, this is your invitation …

to do just that . . to take a closer, uninterrupted look for a few brief December moments
at the One foretold by prophets and angels as the Son of the Most High God.
This invitation comes in three separate chapters but it is far more than an invitation to read . .
it’s an invitation to respond to a standing invitation from the Christ of Christmas himself
who was described by Paul in this manner,

Christ Jesus, Who, being in very nature God  . .
made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant.
Philippians 2:6-7

And what was the invitation issued by this Christ? . .
to follow religion? common sense? virtue? your church? your heart? . .
no, no and a bunch of “heaven no’s”! . .
the invitation was to follow Him and it was phrased as follows,

If anyone wishes to follow Me, he must deny himself . .
for whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake,
he is the one who will save it.
Luke 9:23-24

So how about it? . .

Interested this December in unpacking the idea of taking more of a back seat
to a less self-protecting and self-serving life
and really finding Christmas?

It’s the difference
between fear and freedom,
ritual and relationship,
lost and found . .
it’s the difference between
meaningless and
hopeFULL.

What makes a genuine choice to follow Jesus so problematic is the cost.
Satan has never willingly accepted the bill
and consequently led mankind down the treacherous path of asking God
to limit, even nullify His glory . . His preeminence over all things.

Is it not interesting that when the Serpent tempted the Messiah on a high mountain
that Jesus responded, “It is written and forever remains written,
‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only Him.’”? (Luke 4)

Finding Christmas begins and ends with you and I
rejecting the satanic power play that first divided our relationship with God
and replacing it with pure, undiluted worship and adoration.
A brief word study will reveal that the word “adore” conveys the idea of
“to dearly, love, be devoted to, cherish, treasure, prize, worship, glorify, praise, reverence, exalt”.

In the three Christmas LifeLetters below,
I take a few moments to unpack what “adore” can look like in our everyday lives.
Why not ask God to open your heart this Christmas to His truth?
May the result make this your best-ever December to remember!

“Adore” by Chris Tomlin

You stepped down from heaven
Humbly you came
God of all creation
Here with us
In a starlet manger
Emmanuel
Light of the world
Here to save

Adore
Come let us adore
Oh come let us adore him
The Lord, worship Christ, the Lord
Let all that is within us
Adore

Wise men bring their treasures
Shepherds bow low
Angel voices sing of peace on earth
What have I to offer
To heaven’s King
I’ll bring my life, my love, my all

Adore
Come let us adore
Oh come let us adore him
The Lord, worship Christ, the Lord
Let all that is within us
Adore

Angels sing, praises ring to the newborn King
Peace on earth, here with us, joy awakening
At your feet we fall

Adore
Come let us adore
Oh come let us adore him
The Lord, worship Christ, the Lord
Let all that is within us
Adore
