the Cafe thought you just might want to know how an Encouragement Leader like Laura Rath
has herself been encouraged in her own faith recently.

In her own words . . .

There are times when it feels like there is no way (that I can see) through a particular situation.
Instead of letting myself get discouraged, I think back to other times
I thought there was “no way” and how God made a way.
If He made a way once, He’ll do it again,
no matter what I can or can’t see ahead.

Today’s Find It Only Here On Friday
“Heart Cleaning”

by Laura Rath

Earlier this year
I did some spring cleaning …

trying to get rid of stuff I’ve held on to for way too long.

As I wondered why I hadn’t done this sooner, I realized it’s not just the stuff around us that piles up. It’s the stuff on the inside too…things like regret we keep reliving, anger we won’t let go of, and unforgiveness towards others—and ourselves.

How often do we confess these things to God and receive His forgiveness, but then continue to hold on to them? Maybe it’s not a conscious effort, but somehow we’ve stored the hurt and emotions away, until they resurface. And then we have to deal with it. Again.

Perhaps it’s time
to do a little spring cleaning on the inside . .
In our hearts

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

– Psalm 139:23-24 –

Why do we hold on to past regrets—things we can’t change? Being stuck in the past affects today and future decisions and actions. Regret overshadows everything the future might hold. Imagine the fresh start we could have if we would let go and let God clean regret out of our hearts.

For some (like me) anger is easier to deal with than acknowledging that I’m hurt. But anger continues to simmer, at times reaching the boiling point. It continues to be fueled and contaminates our thoughts and actions.

Anger that is not dealt with can continue for years. It hinders moving forward and moving on with our lives.

Search me, O God, and know my heart…

It’s time to let God
do some heart cleaning …

Point out anything in me that offends you…like unforgiveness. We hold it over others’ heads, and even our own. “I’ll never forgive you (or myself).” We wield it like a weapon, but the one who it hurts the most is the one who won’t forgive. Unforgiveness keeps us prisoner to the past. It won’t let us move on without the pain…physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

It’s a vicious cycle—anger, unforgiveness, and regret. They feed each other until something breaks the cycle.

And the longer we hold on to them, the stronger their power over us becomes.

… and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Perhaps it’s time to ask God to do some heart cleaning…and let go of the past that keeps us prisoner. {Tweet this}
