What grips you? Is it something you can’t shake, like a prevailing mood or nagging thought from the past, present or the future? There is so much in the world that wants our attention, the “bait and switch” that pines for our trust; we can be lured into a suffocating place. By nature it is easy to attach ourselves to people, places and things. Our addictive nature gravitates to bondage. Even our bodies have physical reflexes that function without thought. Our heart has similar emotional reflexes. Learned behavior based on experience and education and training contribute to most of our personality. Genetical weakness can try to take us by surprise. Fear can take us captive; it’s grip can be like a choke hold. How do we break free?
To circumvent this involuntary response, we learn to respond to God first. As we fix our eyes on Christ and hear the Shepherd’s voice we discover ultimately that we are in the grip of grace. God’s grip is gentle, but firm, He will never let us go. The strongholds that hold us back can be broken as we continually respond to God before addressing people. Speak to God first, then to people. He will give supernatural wisdom and discernment for our details of life. Our tendencies will be transformed into places of divine strength. He will deliver us from the strife and manipulation of man in Psalms 31:20.
Today, look away from anything that tries to trap you, and delight in the Lord. Grace declares that sin has no hold on us, the world the flesh and the devil are defeated! Let Jesus bring us into a large place of grace, were the “things of the world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glorious face.”
Psalms 18:19,36 “He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delights in me; Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.”
