Mondays For The Second-Guessing Shepherd

You got though another weekend …

You suited up, showed up, stood up..  and led with passion and purpose. But Monday morning brings doubts and questions.

Has your message already slipped into the forgotten pile? Was your ministry more remarkable or predictable? Did He show up . . or worse, would He want to show up? You reflect on “measurable” growth yet wonder.. if the numbers tell the real story.. If you’re enabling a culture of fans instead of followers.. if in hitting the mark you’ve missed the Master.. if somehow in delivering the gospel you have stopped being the gospel.. and instead have become little more than production that promotes program and process.. at the expense of the awe and wonder only available in His presence.

If you are there this Monday,
I have a LifeLine or two just for you …

“It always takes twice as much work to fill another’s shoes
rather than running with the one’s God has provided.”

“When you seek to lead others for the cause of Christ out of a search for personal validation,
you risk ceasing to be an ambassador of the Gospel
and instead likely become little more than a power-broker
desperately in need of a following.”

“All my broken places are surrounded by the One
who was broken beyond recognition .. for me.
So broken is now only my circumstance, but blessed is my standing.
Because I know broken, I am more than doubly blessed
because my Potter can only make beautiful
when I first trust Him and Him alone with .. my broken.”

“There is a right time and place to confirm qualification (having the right tools for the job),
to give attention to proper preparation (spiritual and work discipline) . .
and to guard motivation (the very attitude of Christ as noted in Philippians 2).”

“The enemy wants to accuse . . he wants to get you thinking about you – a lot.
Nonetheless, he can only offer lies and discouragement
and is defeated at the very mention of God’s word.”

“You are most faithful and free of insecurity-driven burnout
when you are most aware of your limits and limitations . .
AND His grace and power which has no boundary . .
grace and power that is unleashed best
through the door of surrender instead of the door of spectacular.”

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout,
and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire,
and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
– Isaiah 55:10-11 –
