What does rest look like to you? Lying on a sandy beach, camping under a starry night, peaceful quiet in your hammock or encompassed by your favorite song? Rest looks different to all of us. This is a personal pursuit all the days of our life. Inactivity is not the only form of rest but how do we calm ourselves on the inside?

Our personal Oasis represents a lush, healthy place of rest surrounded by a parched land. Our noisy souls often trudge along without rest. We can forget what true rest really is. Anxious, tired, overburdened and losing hope describe just but a few outcomes of the modern, driven soul. God promises true rest and refreshment. His Truth grounds the lies that fatigue our minds. He teaches us to rest IN the work, not only at the completion, this is the essence of the fulfilled life. Rest produces vitality and creativity. Christ promises personal, prepared and permanent rest for his people – will you enter in?

True rest is found in the presence of God. His all encompassing presence brings ultimate peace to our noisy world, as our world is subject to Him. We enter His presence by acknowledging that Christ is with us and that HE is greater than anything in our life. “Practicing” His presence is to be aware that we have a kingdom resource beyond ourselves, so we can rest while we are working. To fellowship with the Master in the midst of our busy life, this is a secret we must discover.

Just a child would collapse in the arms of his father so God has ordained us to do the same. Our ability is a strength, but to maintain and grow we must rest. To quiet ourselves to hear the still small voice say “I love you”, “I accept you”, “You are mine”; these personal initiations revives us.

As in the eye of the storm there is peace, so it is in our stormy lives. God is near. It may not appear that way, but he dwells in our darkness. Worship and exalt him by reminding yourself of His faithfulness this will release Rest. God will be faithful beyond what you can ask or think. Loosen your grip on your life, your dream, and what you want. Seek and trust God for the outcome, resist the temptation to “help” God;  Grace doesn’t help us, it does it all or nothing at all! Enjoy Gods presence today, it is your Oasis.
