It was Communion Sonday. The elements were placed neatly on the altar table. The message had been given. The piano was gently playing.
“Now, take a few moments of personal reflection to confess and repent before we disperse the bread and wine.”
Sinner me, I bowed my head. Immediately, recent “stuff” was revealed to me. I confessed. I repented. And, weak vessel that I am, asked the Lord to help me with THIS.
Two, three minutes passed. Was this really long enough to get all of my “stuff” worked through?
Our pastor stood on the platform with the bread, the broken body of our Savior, in his hand – and spoke these words from John 18.37,
For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world…
The very words the Lord spoke to Pontius Pilate the day He walked to Golgotha.
As I sat there, holding the Bread of Life, Holy Spirit whispered to my heart, “The stuff you just confessed? He died for THIS.”
My spirit was flooded with peace.
We all have a THIS. It was FOR THIS, He was born, and, FOR THIS He came into the world…
