What have you done with your spiritual failure?
God knows that our tendency is to conceal and put away out of public view that which lies in our hearts . . . that which would bring shame, condemnation and financial loss. He knows too our temptation to cover failure with demonstrated religious duty and moral acts of kindness to humanity . . . you know, oxymoron religion . . . the kind that allows the darkness and the chains to grow stronger.
It always has been easier to stamp our highest calling . . . trust in God . . . on our currency, rather than on our hearts.
The story of the Passion of Jesus Christ is really a story of a failure-free Lamb pursuing hearts who are hiding from God . . . making them new. Good Friday . . . at first even that phrase feels like a complete oxymoron . . . but the darkest day in human and Divine history is good because God’s rescue gets close. From I John 1 we read,
“God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light . . . the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
All our shame, bondage and condemnation . . . became His on a blood-soaked cross. Our healing, hope and fully-forgiven future are available, but it’s given to those who seek it.
This is David “JB” Miller asking “Have you heard His “All is forgiven”?” When we trust His life, His death, His love to be our covering . . . we will never find ourselves more free . . . and farther from . . .
. . . oxymoron religion.
